Preservation in Progress: Picturing Immigration
Press: “‘We thought it would be an interesting, and frankly, educational opportunity to bring the public in and show them a little bit of how this work happens on a day-to-day basis,’ Lilly Tuttle, a curator, said.” – NY1
Given the opportunity to invite the public behind-the-scenes of the conservation of the monumental painting, The Bay and Harbor of New York, I created an interactive environment that supplemented this experience and delved further into the often-invisible processes of caring for Museum objects—from safe storage practices to research and public display. To make these practices accessible and engaging, I developed a series of tactile and participatory elements, including lift-the-flap storage comparisons, a “make your own condition report” station, and digital magnification to look closer at the restoration process.
