A City for Corduroy: Don Freeman’s New York

Press: "The show, brimming with lively sketches, oils and lithographs, is perfectly child friendly. Low-placed display cases make it easy for kids to see early sketches for ‘Corduroy’ and Freeman’s other books, while a small stage...makes a perfect perch to read them on."

The exhibition featured drawings, paintings, publications, and prints, and sketches of Corduroy and other characters created by author and illustrator Don Freeman. To create an experience that would engage and delight young Museum visitors, I used vibrant, primary colors that emphasized warmth, playfulness, and discovery in the overall design. Child-height displays, cozy reading areas, and hands-on activities created an immersive environment that encouraged exploration and storytelling. An interactive coloring activity, a child-centric video tour, and flip-the-flap activity for younger visitors rounded out the interactive moments throughout the gallery.
